It's a Girl! Katherine (Katie) Juliet Jones was born on December 10th, 2002 at 10:45 p.m. at New York Presbyterian. A very healthy baby, despite enduring four rounds of chemotherapy and being delivered via C-section one month early, she was 20 inches long and weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces. The day was long. Juliet was admitted to the hospital on the evening of December 9th and given drugs to induce labor. To induce was the first choice because she was scheduled for a mastectomy on the 13th and two surgeries in one week would be difficult. However, during the afternoon on the 10th, Juliet developed a slight fever and rather than risk infection of any sort, the doctors decided to proceed with a C-section. As noted, the birth was a success and Katie joined us with her quiet beauty and to this day serves as an inspiration for her "mum" and us all.
